Finance Commission Revenue Working Group Puts Forth Recommendations
11.27.2018 — The Texas Commission on Public School Finance Working Group on Revenues met Tuesday and discussed six revenue recommendations.
The committee went through each recommendation, and in the end, voted to put forth five of the recommendations, tabling recommendation No. 4, which would eliminate M&O taxes and limit state spending to 4 percent per biennium. This is the plan put forth by the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF).
The full commission will meet Friday, November 30, at 1 p.m. and again December 5. Chairman Scott Brister said he hopes for the full commission to meet again during the third week of December to finalize and vote on the final report. He also noted that members could still bring forth additional recommendations on revenue sources to the full commission.
(Note: Our original post misidentified the recommendation tabled by the commission as No. 3, though the description provided was for the correct recommendation, No. 4. We regret the error and have corrected it above.)
