Senate Committee on Education Votes Out Voucher and Finance Commission Bills

07.21.2017 — The Senate Committee on Education met Friday, July 21. After nine hours of testimony, the committee voted out the following two bills:

  • SB 2 (Larry Taylor, et al.) Relating to public school finance, including the establishment of a tax credit scholarship and educational expense assistance program. (Sens. Uresti and West were the only two on the committee to vote against this bill.)

  • SB 16 (Larry Taylor, et al.) (Larry Taylor, et al.) Relating to the creation of a commission to recommend improvements to the public school finance system. (This bill passed 10-0.)

Both bills will now go to the full Senate. If passed by the full Senate, they must then go the House.
