TEA to Hold Public Hearing on Rules Concerning Video Surveillance of Special Education Settings
05.03.2016 — TEA has announced it will hold a public hearing on proposed Commissioner’s Rules concerning video surveillance of certain special education settings. The hearing will be conducted Thursday, May 19 from 9 a.m. until the conclusion of testimony or not later than 2 p.m. in Room 1-111, William B. Travis Building, 1701 North Congress Ave. in Austin.
Individuals who wish to testify at the hearing should sign in at the hearing site; no prior registration is necessary. Testimony will be limited to three minutes per speaker. Speakers are encouraged, but not required, to provide written copies of their testimony. Individuals who wish to provide written testimony may do so at the time of the meeting.
In early April, TEA posted the proposed rules for the implementation of SB 507, which requires video cameras to be placed in certain special education settings. The public comment period on the rules ended Friday, May 9.
