04.05.2016 — At Tuesday’s SBOE meeting, the board discussed two reports called for by HB 743, passed by the 84th Texas Legislature, that were made available just a day before the meeting. The first report, conducted by a third party, provides an overview of the validity of the STAAR test items from the March administration. The second report was prepared by TEA staff and relates to the TEKS.
Due to lack of time to read the report, one of which is 100 pages, the board voted to delay making any recommendations to the Legislature as they are authorized to do by HB 743. They will take up the issue again at the July SBOE meeting.
A third report on the validity of STAAR items will be prepared after the May STAAR administration.
