HB 1759 School Finance Reform Bill on House Calendar for Thursday, May 14
05.13.2015 — The Texas House is scheduled to hear Rep. Jimmie Don Aycock’s HB 1759 Thursday. The bill, along with the funding proposed in HB 1 ($2.2 billion), provides an additional $800 million for public schools above the amount needed to cover enrollment growth and makes changes to the school finance system. The House Public Education Committee passed it out of committee April 21.
Aycock told a Texas Tribune reporter earlier this week that while he hoped the House would still debate his legislation, it had “become abundantly clear” that Senate leaders did not intend to move HB 1759 if it goes to their chamber.
