TEA Presents Legislative Appropriations Request to the LBB on September 9

Every August before the Texas Legislature meets, state agencies are required to submit to the Governor's Office and Legislative Budget Board (LBB) a Legislative Appropriations Request (LAR) for the next biennium. TEA's entire LAR for fiscal years 2016 and 2017 is posted here. The request includes base budget items, as well as exceptional items (those that require new money beyond the base budget).

The LAR is voluminous (381 pages). The four page "Administrator's Statement" at the beginning of the document provides a succinct overview of:

  1. significant changes in policy and services provided by TEA;

  2. significant externalities (e.g. 19% growth in student population);

  3. TEA's priorities; and,

  4. eight exceptional item requests to help the agency address its priorities and carry out state law.

TEA's Chief Deputy Commissioner Lizzette Reynolds will present the LAR to the LBB and Governor's Office at a public hearing at 2 p.m. on September 9 in room E2.030 in the Capitol Extension.

Watch the hearing live on Tuesday.
