Senate Panel Approves Additional Funding for Public Schools

The Senate Finance Committee on Thursday voted to add $1.5 billion in additional funding to the proposed $35.1 billion general budget for public education, including $40 million for pre-kindergarten programs, $20 million for the Virtual School Network and $4 million to support the Teach for America program.

The additional funding approved yesterday would also restore some of the $5.4 billion cut in state funding from the last legislative session. The full Senate must still approve the Finance Committee's recommendation.
