TASA Opens Scholarship Award Application for Doctoral Students in Education

TASA President Darrell Floyd today announced the establishment of the Johnny L. Veselka Scholarship award. The scholarship award was established to honor and provide financial assistance to outstanding doctoral students pursuing a career in educational leadership, with particular emphasis on the superintendency. The scholarship recognizes the continuing leadership of Dr. Johnny L. Veselka, having served the association for nearly 40 years, and serving as TASA Executive Director since 1986.

TASA will award three scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each, as the number and quality of applicants allows. Scholarship winners will be announced and the awards will be presented at TASA’s Midwinter Conference in Austin on January 27, 2014.

To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in an accredited university doctoral program in the field of education. Those who are already employed as a superintendent and currently enrolled in a university education doctoral program are also eligible to apply.

A scholarship committee will review the applications and select up to three scholarship winners. The application closes December 10, and scholarship recipients will be notified on Jan. 15, 2014.
