In Memoriam

Jack D. Johnson, TASA Past President, passed away on Thursday, January 3.  He was 85.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 5.

He joined the Carroll Common School District in 1957, and, for 30 years, he served the district as teacher, coach, principal and superintendent.  He was the district’s first superintendent and served in that position for 28 years, until his retirement in 1987.

Johnson was active in TASA throughout his tenure as superintendent and served as TASA president in 1985-86.  In his first official act as TASA president he called a special meeting of the TASA Executive Committee in June 1985, at which the committee appointed Dr. Johnny Veselka as TASA Executive Director.

Just last month, Johnson was recognized for his efforts and many historic achievements as the recipient of Southlake Style's 2012 Community Impact Award

The family suggests donations in his honor to the Jack D. Johnson Scholarship Fund (Contact Carroll ISD for more information.)
