TASA Adds Three New High School Math Resources to TASA on iTunes U®

TASA on ITunes U logo 08.10.2015 — TASA has announced a new Algebra I digital resource collection, the first of three new high school math resource collections aligned with the new Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for math (revised in 2012), to be added to the free TASA on iTunes U® digital content resource library for the start of the 2015-16 school year.

The Algebra I resource collection is already accessible to Texas educators; new Algebra II and Geometry collections will be available by September 1. (Update: The Algebra II and Geometry collections were published August 24.) The new collections will make it easier for teachers creating lessons in these courses by providing lists of course-enhancing digital resources that other experienced teachers and content specialists have curated.

Teams of educators act as curators for TASA on iTunes U to select resources for each collection that are not only aligned with the TEKS, the state’s curriculum standards, but also interesting and engaging for students. The resource collections include student practice tools, free open educational resources, and other digital content. Many of the resources in the new collections were not available even a year ago.

Mary Kemper, the director of mathematics for Coppell ISD and the mathematics content lead for TASA on iTunes U, worked extensively on the new Algebra I resource collection, which she said, “is organized conceptually to support connection to the big ideas.”

“Digital content, embedded with a readable explanation of the resources, allows teachers to build their toolkits and explore new and rigorous resources for their students,” Kemper said. “I am excited about the potential benefits to the Algebra I classrooms across the state with the release of this organized content!”

These new math collections, as well as an updated one for Math Models released in January, complement existing elementary, middle school and high school core content, college preparatory, CTE and advanced academics resource collections available free of charge to Texas districts and educators through TASA on iTunes U. The resource collections, which will total 62 with the newest additions, are designed to foster creativity, collaboration and critical thinking skills in an engaging, digitally rich learning environment.
