AASA to Celebrate 150th Anniversary at 2015 National Conference

National Conference logo 02.13.2015 — TASA members and staff will attend the 2015 AASA National Conference on Education, “Celebrating Public Education in America,” February 26-28, in San Diego. Attendees will join in commemorating AASA’s 150th anniversary and school leaders everywhere.

This year's conference focuses on critical topics, including:
•    Standards and assessments
•    Superintendent/school board relationships
•    Governance and district management
•    Leadership
•    Curriculum and instruction
•    Digitizing education
•    Healthy school environments

Featured speakers include former U.S. secretary of education and governor of South Carolina Richard Riley, baseball’s all-time “Ironman” Cal Ripken, Duke University CASE Center senior fellow Dan Heath, retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel Consuelo Kickbusch, and a host of other Thought Leaders.

Two Candidates Seek AASA President-elect Position

TASA President and Katy ISD Superintendent Alton Frailey and Deborah Akers, superintendent of Mercer County Schools, Princeton, West Virginia, have announced their candidacy for president-elect of AASA. The election will be conducted by email ballot among active AASA members following the AASA National Conference in San Diego, February 26-28.


Following certification by the AASA Governing Board on February 25, each candidate will have an opportunity to address AASA members attending the conference during the Second General Session (8 a.m., Friday, February 27). A special candidate forum is also scheduled immediately following the general session. Balloting will be conducted between March 16 and April 6.

Southwest States Reception

Texas attendees will gather for a special Southwest States Reception at the San Diego Marriott’s Coronado Terrace on Friday, February 27, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
