04.29.2015 — Today, the Senate “concurred” with changes the Texas House made last week to Sen. Kel Seliger’s SB 149, voting 30 to 1 and sending the bill to Gov. Greg Abbott for signature.
The House’s changes include an important amendment that would allow an 11th or 12th grader who has failed no more than two EOC exams to graduate from high school with the approval of an Individual Graduation Committee that would consider factors other than the EOC exam scores. (The version of SB 149 originally submitted to the House Public Education Committee specified that a student would be eligible for an Individual Graduation Committee after failing one EOC exam.)
If the governor signs the bill into law, it would expire in 2017.
