04.09.2015 — After spending hours discussing HB 4 on Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed the bill, which is modeled after Gov. Greg Abbott’s pre-K plan, with a final vote of 128-17-2.
Rep. Dan Huberty, who filed HB 4, called on House members on Wednesday to support the bill and “do the right thing for our little kids.” It would give schools at least $130 million, up to $1,500 per student, to improve pre-K programs.
Gov. Abbott issued a statement that said the vote was an “important first step toward transforming the foundation of our state’s early education system for generations to come.”
