Amarillo ISD Teachers Focus on Digital Learning on Techno Tuesdays
In Amarillo ISD, a Consortium Associate district, pre-K through fifth-grade teachers meet each Tuesday after school in a campus computer lab for “Techno
Tuesday.” Led by Amarillo ISD digital learning leader
Mindy Montano, the hour-long weekly gathering is designed to help
teachers become more tech savvy as the school district places a renewed
focus on using digital resources.
Techno Tuesday meshes with Amarillo ISD’s emphasis on “21st-century
skills,” a term that broadly refers to a set of abilities seen by
advocates as critical to success in today’s world.
“In a nutshell, we want to get rid of worksheets,” said
Montano. “We want kids using their higher order thinking skills. We
want them collaborating with their classmates. We want them
communicating in multiple ways, whether its through Google Classroom,
through a blog or face to face.”
