SB 463 Extending Individual Graduation Committees Becomes Law

06.12.2017 — The final version of SB 463 has been signed by the governor. The bill extends the Individual Graduation Committees put in place in 2015 by SB 149 and the reporting requirements for students graduating based on IGC review process to September 1, 2019.

The bill also requires the commissioner of education to establish a procedure to determine whether certain students who entered the ninth grade before 2011-12 may qualify to graduate and receive a diploma and would specify certain requirements for the Commissioner's rules.

It also requires the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), in coordination with TEA, to collect longitudinal data related to the post-graduation of each student awarded a diploma based on the determination of an IGC and report certain related information to the legislature by December 1 of each even-numbered year.

SB 463 takes effect immediately because it received a vote of at least two-thirds of all the members elected to each house.
