05.30.2018 — Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced a plan he wants to implement before the next public school year. The plan would allocate $120 million in funding to enhance school safety measures.
03.26.2018 — Hispanic students represent a majority of public school students in Texas but would be hard-pressed to find someone who looks like them in their local superintendent’s office.
To meet that end, the Texas Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (TALAS) was created as a statewide association for the identification, recruitment, development, and advancement of Latino school administrators in order to improve public education in general for all students, with an emphasis on improving the educational and career opportunities of Latino youth. Despite the fast-rising numbers of Latinos in our society and schools, there are few Latino top administrators in education. With this critical shortage of Latino leadership, the need to come together and advocate has never been greater.TALAS will focus on statewide events that offer culturally-responsive professional development, mentoring program support, and key networking opportunities.
