||Stan Paz, executive director of TALAS since 2016, is the founding president of the Association for Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS).
Paz’s career includes more than 45 years in education. He is the former vice president of McGraw-Hill Education and regional vice president of Sylvan Learning. He also served as the superintendent of the Tucson and El Paso public school districts and as associate superintendent of Dallas Independent School District.
Paz is a former president of the Texas Association of School Administrators, and was honored in 1994 as the Texas Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards. In 2009, he received the National Hispanic Corporate Achievers Award, and in 2007, he received the ALAS Lifetime Achievement Award. He was selected by AASA, The School Superintendents Association, as a Top 100 Executive Educator in 1988.
Paz holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Arizona. He serves on the boards of directors of the University of Peru for Applied Sciences and Walden University, and he previously served on the boards of National Hispanic University and the George Lucas Foundation for Technology in Education.
