Engage Your Teachers in Digital Content Creation & Implementation

  • Announcing a Special Learning Opportunity for Teachers/Teacher Leaders/Content Specialists at TASA's 2015 Midwinter Conference!

TASA is pleased to announce a very special opportunity for district teachers/teacher leaders/content specialists to gain hands-on experience in creating, distributing, and using digital content through a newly redesigned, one-day Digital Content Leadership Academy taking place during TASA's Midwinter Conference.

In March 2013, TASA launched TASA on iTunes U®, providing course content for classroom teachers in mathematics, science, social studies, and English language arts. Fifty-eight teachers from 14 school districts formed teams that selected content for 18 high school courses in the four core subject areas. Their goal was to collect interactive, online content for high-priority, essential learning standards. The site provides course resource collections—fully aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The content—created by teachers for teachers—has been expanded to now include 41 course resource collections, including middle and high school core content areas, advanced academics, CTE, college preparatory, and soon-to-be-added elementary core content. The content is being used in classrooms both in and out of Texas, fostering creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills in an engaging, digitally rich learning environment.

    Academy Details — Monday, January 26, 8:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m., Austin Convention Center
Based on feedback from last year's academy and input from our growing team of content curators, we've redesigned the DCLA as a truly interactive, hands-on experience that will empower your teachers and specialists to embrace the basics of successful digital content implementation and join the state's growing cadre of those who are proficient in digital content creation.

The academy's opening session (8:30-9:15 a.m.) will feature a panel of the TASA on iTunes U content leads who were integral to the initial creation and subsequent expansion of TASA on iTunes U. All conference attendees are welcome to join academy participants for this informative session.

Following the panel presentation, registered teachers and specialists will work in groups based on level (high school, middle school, or elementary) and content area (English language arts, math, science, social studies, CTE, and other areas as determined by registrants) and dive into the real work of creating online content. Attendees will walk through the basics of successful digital content implementation and build actual courses for their own use. The day will wrap up with the Midwinter Conference's 1st General Session featuring Doug Christensen.

Academy registration also entitles participants to attend Midwinter Conference sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, (January 27-28), as their district schedules permit. The conference features a special STEM strand on Tuesday that may be of interest to DCLA participants.

    Registration Fee
The registration fee for this special event is just $95 per person*. Teachers participating in the hands-on portion of the academy are expected to bring an iPad and a laptop with either Safari 8.0, Chrome v.39 or later, or Firefox v.34 or later. Attendees should also know their Apple ID and password.

*NOTE: Only teachers, teacher leaders, and content specialists are eligible to register at this special rate. Superintendents and other school administrators must register at regular conference rates.
