Assignment Makeover Design Studio

  • Session 2: February 10, 2016

Individuals or teams may register for the entire academy (all three sessions) or for Session 2 and/or Session 3, which are stand-alone sessions.

The central work for educators, as we move beyond learning how specific tools and apps work, is to design assignments that can tap the full power of the digital learning environment. In this full-day design studio, educators bring their favorite projects or assignments for a "makeover." The schedule will include a review of how to expand the boundaries of existing assignments to include:
    • critical thinking on the Web
    • global audience
    • authentic work
    • student self-assessment
    • making student thinking visible
    • collaborative projects
    • increased student engagement
    • student documentation of learning

The day will introduce some tools such as Prism, Verso, and Sway. However, the focus will be on developing a design framework for creating more rigorous, demanding, and inspiring assignments.

Teams or individuals may attend, including: teachers, school leaders, librarians, tech and academic coaches, and campus and district leaders. Participants should be able to build further capacity with colleagues.

The tone of the workshop is a balance of presentation, design, and feedback on created assignments. Bring a team and tickle your brain!
