The First Five Days of School
Session 3: April 13, 2016Individuals or teams may register for the entire academy (all three sessions) or for Session 2 and/or Session 3, which are stand-alone sessions.
Participants in Session 3 will discover the significant opportunities during the first five days of school to set the tone for powerful, engaging, and self-directed learning. Empowering students to own their learning and by helping them to develop tools and networks for support throughout the school year, we better prepare them for the global economy.Through thought-provoking conversations, participants will be challenged to consider the broad opportunities that await in the first five days of school, paying special attention to the importance of information literacy, student roles, global collaboration, and more. Participants will learn the tools and techniques required to bring these opportunities to life.Listen to this episode of the November Learning Podcast Series, in which Alan November, who will lead Session 3 on The First Five Days of School, speaks to Ian VanderSchee, an upper-level mathematics teacher at Coppell High School. The two discuss Ian’s implementation of November’s “First 5 Days” ideas at the start of the school year and how these ideas have positively impacted his students ever since.Teams or individuals may attend, including: teachers, school leaders, librarians, tech and academic coaches, and campus and district leaders. Participants should be able to build further capacity with colleagues.

Once you are logged into the Member Services Center, click the Events tab and select The First Five Days of School to register for Session 3 or select Digital Learning Design (Austin) 2015-16 to register for the full, three-session academy.
For Session 2 and/or Session 3:
- $175 per person per session for individuals from districts that subscribe to TASA's School Transformation Network
- $200 per person per session for individuals from districts that do NOT subscribe to the network
April 1, 2016 for Session 3
The full three-session academy offers up to 18 hours of Continuing Professional Education Credit. Session 2 and Session 3 each offer up to 6 hours of CPE Credit.View Certificate of Renewal and CPE Requirements for additional information.
