Dr. John Byrne
In 2000 Eric Kandel won a Nobel Prize for his groundbreaking research on the physiology of making memories. One of his former students, Dr. John Byrne, who is based in Houston, teaches and conducts research at the Texas Medical Center and the University of Texas Health Sciences Center. He has become one of the world's leading researchers on the neurobiology of how we learn and the physiological underpinnings on the design of learning.
Byrne is the June and Virgil Waggoner Chair and chairman of the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).
He also serves as director of the Neuroscience Research Center at UTHealth. He holds positions as adjunct professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Texas in Austin and in the departments of Psychology and Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University.
