After the votes were canvassed, a run-off election in Region 2 will take place between Troy Mircovich, superintendent at Ingleside ISD, and Mary Springs, superintendent at Santa Gertrudis ISD. Additionally, a run-off election in Region 6 will take place between Rory Gesch, superintendent at Navasota ISD, and Morris Lyon, superintendent at North Zulch ISD.

04.16.2014 — The board of the Texas Association of Suburban/Mid-Urban Schools (TAS/MUS) has announced that Jeff Turner, superintendent of Coppell ISD, has been named Executive Director. Turner succeeds Marvin Crawford who is retiring September 30 after serving 13 years as the TAS/MUS Executive Director.
03.23.2014 – The election of members to the 2014-2015 Executive Committee from even- numbered regions includes one new member and seven members who will be serving second terms. Andrew Peters, superintendent of Marfa ISD in Region 18, submitted the necessary petitions to replace Kevin Allen of Iraan-Sheffield ISD, whose term expires on May 31.
03.18.2014 — Due to special circumstances, TASA will hold elections to fill two vacancies on the Executive Committee. Jim Rumage, superintendent of Banquete ISD representing Region 2, was recently elected to fill this position for the new two-year term beginning June 1, 2014, however, he has notified us that he will be taking a new position as superintendent at Crane ISD in Region 18 and must resign his position. Additionally, Eddie Coulson, superintendent of College Station ISD representing Region 6, has announced his retirement and will be completing his term on the Executive Committee on May 31, 2014.

08.09.2013 — The Texas Education Agency announced Thursday that 92.5 percent or 1,136 Texas school districts and charter schools achieved the “met standard” rating under the state’s new accountability system. State ratings have been on hold since 2011 while the agency revamped the accountability system to align with the new STAAR tests.

07.12.2013 — Federal accountability ratings known as Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), required as part of the No Child Left Behind Act, are normally released days after state accountability ratings. This year state ratings will be released on August 8, but it is unknown when AYP ratings will be announced.
06.20.2013 — Despite unanimous approval in both the Texas House and the Senate, Governor Perry on Friday vetoed House Bill 2824, the bill related to the Texas High Performance Schools Consortium. HB 2824 would have provided space and flexibility to the 23 school districts participating in the Consortium to carry out the research and development necessary to accomplish the goals initially outlined in Senate Bill 1557 to transform public education.

05.01.2013 — In partnership with TASA and the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, the Committee for Economic Development has released its latest issue brief "Digital Learning: Meeting the Challenges and Embracing the Opportunities for Teachers."
04.30.2013 — The Texas Education Agency posted STAAR results for fifth and eighth-grade students on Monday, with about a quarter of those students failing the math test. Twenty-five percent of the state’s fifth-graders failed the math test and 23 percent failed reading. Among the eighth-graders, twenty-three percent failed the math exam and 16 percent failed reading.
04.23.2013 — The Commissioner released details of the "new" 2013 accountability system on Tuesday, though ratings are still largely based on STAAR performance. Ratings for schools and districts under the new system will be issued on August 8. However, it’s possible the changes will be postponed for one year based on pending legislation. If passed, Senate Bill 1109 by Deuell, would suspend the ratings until 2014.
04.23.2013 — Texas Education Code Section 51.3062(f) provides the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) with the authority to prescribe a single standard for the TSI assessment to effectively measure college readiness. In addition, HB 3468 (82nd Texas Legislature) requires a statewide diagnostic assessment that allows for diagnosis and targeted intervention for students not college-ready and their appropriate placement in developmental education or adult basic education (ABE).

04.22.2013 — The State Board of Education on Friday tentatively approved seven additional Career and Technical Education (CTE) or Technology Applications courses that may count for the fourth math or science credit required for the Recommended or Distinguished graduation plans.
04.19.2013 — The West Independent School District held a press conference late yesterday to announce that the district will resume classes on Monday. Superintendent Marty Crawford said a plan has been developed to finish out the semester after the fertilizer plant explosion destroyed the intermediate school and left the high school and middle schools in an unsafe condition.
04.19.2013 — At the third and final day of the State Board of Education meeting today, the board is expected to approve the revised fine arts Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS); approve bids for instructional materials for Proclamation 2015 that includes social studies for grades K-12, mathematics for grades 9-12, and fine arts; and approve (for 1st reading) additional courses to satisfy the fourth math and science requirements for graduation. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m.
04.16.2013 — H-E-B has announced the finalists for the Excellence in Education Awards, which honors teachers, principals, school districts, and early childhood programs. The finalists will be honored in a special ceremony and the winners in each category announced May 3.
04.11.2013 — TASB has produced an excellent video documenting the Visioning work and the work of the Texas High Performance Schools Consortium. The video is now available and is well worth a watch.
03.05.2013 — The Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) today announced the launch of TASA on iTunes U to help transform Texas teaching and learning by providing course content for classroom teachers in the four core subject areas of mathematics, science, social studies and English language arts.
03.04.2013 — On March 5, educators and advocates across Texas will participate in the first statewide Digital Citizenship Day, an initiative to teach students to be responsible and safe in the digital world.
02.26.2013 — Courtney Hart, coordinator of assessment and accountability in the Lewisville ISD, was one of six graduate students in educational administration selected by AASA to receive a $2,500 scholarship.
02.26.2013 — At the AASA national conference held Feb. 21-23, a common theme emerged from presenters and keynote speakers alike, emphasizing the need to create a new vision for education and the importance of local leadership in school transformation and reform.
01.07.2013 — Jack D. Johnson, TASA Past President, passed away on Thursday, January 3. He was 85. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 5. He joined the Carroll Common School District in 1957, and, for 30 years, he served the district as teacher, coach, principal and superintendent.
01.04.2013 — Commissioner of Education Michael Williams submitted the report titled Update on the Progress of the Texas High Performance Schools Consortium to the 83rd Texas Legislature just before the holidays. In a letter to Gov. Perry and Texas legislators, Commissioner Williams said of the 10 waivers sought by the Consortium, three could be addressed by the Texas Education Agency while the other seven would require legislative action.
