Nominations for the 2011 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards will be accepted later this year. Links to online applications will be posted when available. Printed forms will also be found at H-E-B stores. One nomination can place a teacher, principal, or a school district on the path toward winning a cash prize ranging from $5,000 to $100,000. Educators and school districts are strongly encouraged to submit their own names to the awards for consideration. At the close of the nomination period, all nominees will be sent an invitation to complete an online application form. Learn More.
Teaching Awards
A total of 30 regional finalists will be awarded $1,000 for
themselves plus a $1,000 grant for their schools. From these finalists, a total of six grand-prize
winners will be selected in the following categories:
Rising Star Award (less than 10 years of classroom experience)
One elementary and one secondary teacher will each receive a $5,000 cash prize plus a $5,000 grant for his/her school.
Leadership Award (10 to 20 years of classroom experience)
One elementary and one secondary teacher will each receive a $10,000 cash prize plus a $10,000 grant for his/her school.
Lifetime Achievement Award (more than 20 years of classroom experience)
One elementary and one secondary teacher will each receive a $25,000 cash prize plus a $25,000 grant for his/her school.
In addition, 30 regional finalists will be awarded $1,000 each plus $1,000 for their schools.
Principal Awards
A total of 10 regional finalists will be awarded $1,000 each plus
$2,500 for their schools. In addition, one elementary school and one
secondary school principal will receive $10,000 for themselves plus $25,000 for their schools.
District Awards
One large school district (4A or 5A) will receive $100,000 and
one small school district (1A, 2A or 3A) will receive $50,000. In addition,
five regional large district finalists will be awarded $5,000 each and
three regional small district finalists will be awarded $2,500 each.

The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards are judged in cooperation
with The Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Association
of Secondary School Principals, and the Texas Elementary Principals and
Supervisors Association.
