NSOTY 2011 Program Details

The deadline for submitting nominations forms was July 30, 2010.
Applications due to TASA September 30, 2010.

AASA's NSOTY program, established in 1988, recognizes outstanding individuals on the frontiers of educational leadership. The program is open to all U.S. public school superintendents and superintendents of American schools abroad who plan to continue in the profession. Each state selects one nominee as its representative. Four national finalists are selected from among the state representatives, and the National Superintendent of the Year is chosen from the four finalists.

Now in its 24th year, the National Superintendent of the Year Program pays tribute to the talent and vision of the men and women who lead our nation's public schools.

All state finalists and the four national finalists are recognized during the first general session at the National Conference on Education in February, during which the National Superintendent of the Year is named. All four national finalists, as well as state superintendents of the year, receive special plaques and medallions. In addition, a $10,000 college scholarship will be presented in the name of the National Superintendent of the Year to a student in the high school from which the superintendent graduated, or the school now serving the same area.

The program has both a nomination and an application procedure.  This enables AASA to officially notify your superintendent that you have recommended him or her for the honor.  Information brochure and nomination form can be downloaded here.

NOTE: AASA's National Superintendent of the Year program is NOT affiliated with the Texas Association of School Board's Superintendent of the Year Program. The programs have separate applications and judging procedures.
