TASA
Announces 2010 Regional Honor School Boards
TASA's School Board Awards Committee will review all 11 boards and select five (5) to be named as 2010 Honor Boards. The five selected boards will be interviewed at the TASA/TASB Convention in Houston and spotlighted during the Second General Session (Saturday, September 25, 10:30 a.m.-noon). At the ceremony, one of the boards will be named 2010 Outstanding School Board. TASA created the School Board Awards competition in 1971 to recognize those school boards that demonstrate outstanding service to the children of Texas. TASA's School Board Awards Committee uses the following criteria to select the Honor and Oustanding Boards: the board's policy-making procedures; adherence to adopted board policies; support for educational performance in accordance with state-established standards; support for educational improvement projects; commitment to a code of ethics; provision of financial support for the school system; participation in workshops and other performance improvement programs; placement of the welfare of children served by the school system above personal or political motives; public relations efforts, including community awareness; and evidence of harmonious and supportive relationships among board members. *Regions have the option of naming two regional honor boards, one with under 1,000 students and one with 1,000 or more students. The Texas Association of School Administrators, founded in 1925, is the professional organization of more than 2,000 superintendents and administrators, education service center staff, college and university professors and students, and others interested in public education. The association?s membership represents more than 95 percent of school districts in the state. TASA's mission is to promote, provide, and develop leadership that champions educational excellence. To that end, the association actively represents its membership in the state's legislative and public policy process on issues critical to schools and district administration. The association also provides its members with publications and information resources, cutting-edge seminars and institutes, state-of-the-art conferences, and customized district training.
