Did you know that under Texas election law, high school principals are deputy voter registrars and are responsible for providing high school seniors the opportunity to register to vote? We want to help schools carry out that responsibility and take it beyond the classroom.

We're providing ideas and materials to help you make sure every eligible student, employee and parent has the opportunity to register to vote in time for the 2012 primary election.

These elections are critically important for Texas public schools, yet Texas has some of the lowest voter turnout rates in the country. We want to change that trend.

POWER ON TEXAS features work of TASA's Visioning Institute
POWER ON TEXAS, a landmark project of the Texas Education Agency, now features the work of the Texas Association of School Administrators' Public Education Visioning Institute. The group's report "Creating a New Vision for Public Education in Texas" is now included at POWERONTEXAS.COM. POWER ON TEXAS builds on many of the concepts and issues identified in the visioning document.

TASA and the Texas Leadership Center are pleased to provide the document, Creating a New Vision for Public Education in Texas, resulting from the work of 35 superintendents who participated in the Public Education Visioning Institute over the past 21 months. This edition includes space for reader reflections, questions, and comments in the section titled "Principles and Premises We Embrace.

New Vision Implementation Guide:  Self-Analysis and Implementation Tools
The Implementation Guide is designed to provide an accessible practitioner’s guide to understanding the New Vision premises and principles, to provide a set of best practice tools and processes to guide district staff through the New Vision principles in support of district transformation, to build cross-district support systems and training tools for sharing best practices, and to serve as a "roadmap" for going to scale across all district instructional and support systems.
