How to Save REAP Applications to your PC

Texas School Districts:
TX REAP lets you create an electronic, password-protected applicant management system that makes identifying and ranking potential candidates as easy as surfing the Web.

Far more than a searchable database, TX REAP creates a seamless system that carries you from recruiting through hiring through integrating information into your current database.

The Application
Teacher and administrator candidates complete a comprehensive application online. The application, customized for Texas by Texas administrators, collects information in the following sections:

  • Name and Address
  • Job Preferences (position category and specific position; other positions including teacher assistant/teacher aide and/or short- or long-term substitute; activities to sponsor and/or coach; and geographical preferences within the state)
  • Educational Certificates (type and status, expiration dates, and certificates earned outside of Texas)
  • Educational Background
  • Work History
  • Activities and Honors (high school, college, professional and community organizations, hobbies and special interests)
  • Background Information
  • Professional Statements (designed to let the person explain in their own words their teaching philosophy, strategies, and beliefs)
  • Certification Tests Taken
  • Demographic Survey (voluntary information on race, gender, and veteran status)
  • Cover Letter
  • Background Check

Searching for Candidates
Search the database for candidates meeting your specific requirements! Pull up individual candidates by name or social security number; search for teachers willing to serve as substitutes; or hone in on that perfect candidate who meets your exact need. Searchable criteria include position category and specific position within the category, teaching certificate, teaching experience, cumulative GPA (undergraduate and graduate), student teaching grade, and activities willing to sponsor.

Managing Applications
Your HR director can enlist the help of principals and other staff in reviewing applications, but no more running over to the central office to pick up piles of paper copies of applications--everything is online. In a matter of minutes your HR director can create password-protected "drawers" in which he or she "files" applications of potential candidates. Appropriate staff review, rate, and comment on applications online. Passwords determine who is allowed to see which applicants and/or view comments and ratings. Once a determination has been made to hire a candidate, information can be pulled from the application to conduct an employee background check prior to hiring.
